Active Adults

Our Active Adults program is specifically designed for those who are looking to stay active and engaged with their community. We understand that as we age our bodies and minds may not work as efficiently as they once did, which is why our tailored approach to exercise and social interaction is so important. Our expert trainers and instructors provide a safe and comfortable space that encourages our members to improve their overall well-being. There's something for everyone at Active Adults.

BENEFITS OF ACTIVE ADULTS

The initial benefit of joining our Active Adults program, is that you are taking positive steps towards improving your own health, vitality and longevity. Evidence has shown that regular exercise has several benefits for physical and mental wellbeing, including minimising and prevention of serious health concerns such as heart disease, stroke, dementia, arthritis, to name a few. Benefits also include improved strength, flexibility and mobility which help to improve balance and coordination, not to mention the added benefits of feeling happier, enjoying improved sleep, and mental clarity. You’ll also start to feel better, because when your body is healthy, your mind starts to feel healthy as well.

The added benefit of Active Adults is establishing and developing new friendships that you will make as a result of our regular exercise classes and social activities. We know that exercise is always more enjoyable with friends, and having a regular routine not only helps with implementing some structure into your week, and focusing some time on your health and wellness, but also creates regular interaction with other like-minded people, creating connection and establishing friendships.

WHO IS ACTIVE ADULTS FOR?

Our Active Adults program is primarily aimed towards an ageing community (50yrs+) however, all ages are welcome.

We understand that it can be a bit overwhelming to go to the gym or a group fitness class, especially if you haven’t set foot in a gym for a very long time. We like to bring an element of fun, connection and community to our Active Adults classes, to remove any apprehension newcomers may have.

Whether you are looking at coming to the gym for the very first time, or you’re wanting to make a return after a long break as a result of injury, illness, grief, pregnancy, or any other curveballs that life throws at us, you can rest assured that you will always have somebody available to answer any questions you have, explain anything you may not understand, demonstrate exercises suitable for you (if you have physical or mobility limitations), and can introduce you to a group of people who can provide support, and will always be up for a chat after a class.

WHAT TYPES OF EXERCISE / CLASSES DO YOU DO IN ACTIVE ADULTS?

Aqua

A typical Aqua class is focused around cardio and resistance training, which is choreographed to music. This type of class will get you into the pool, and increase your heart rate to improve your cardiovascular system, whilst also working on developing muscle strength and tone.

Warm Water Aqua classes have a much more gentle approach, combining slow and controlled movement utilising pool noodles and aqua dumbells to support the body in terms of flotation, so that your joints and muscles can receive the benefits of the workout, without putting pressure on them.

Studio

These classes bring a focus to improving muscle strength, flexibility and balance, by providing functional movement and exercise that will assist with everyday physical activities. These are freestyle classes and can be altered to accommodate for anybody with mobility / balance issues.

WHAT SOCIAL ACTIVITIES DO YOU DO IN ACTIVE ADULTS?

Wear leisure wear that fits your body and allows it to breathe – so long as you feel comfortable in it, and it allows your body to move.

For studio-based classes, you will also need to wear exercise-appropriate footwear (eg, running shoes) that provide cushioning and stability.

  • Leggings or work out tights offer great freedom to move such as squats and lunges.

For Aqua classes, we recommend you choose swimwear that you feel comfortable in –
